Penn State’s Board of Trustees approved a $391.1 million appropriations request from the Pennsylvania state government on Friday. The request is made up of a $242.1 million general support request and several other requests totaling $149 million.

The request includes a $30 million general support increase and a $40 million total increase from the 2024-25 appropriations funding from the state’s general assembly .

Aside from the general support request, the additional appropriation requests include asks for funding for Penn State’s Agricultural Research and Extension, Pennsylvania College of Technology, Penn State Health and the College of Medicine, and Invent Penn State.

Penn State receives some of the lowest per-student funding from the state government among major Pennsylvania public universities. In-state students receive, on average, $5,789 in tuition help from general support appropriations. In-state students at the likes of Temple, Pitt, and Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education schools receive $10,505, $9,538, and $9,526, respectively.

Penn State’s appropriations from the state government have remained stagnant since a 2% funding bump in the 2019-20 fiscal year. Since then, inflation has risen nearly 22%.
