ORANGE BEACH, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Chapel Hart took the world by storm in 2022 after their golden buzzer performance on “America’s Got Talent.”

Since then, the country girl group from Poplarville, Miss., has performed worldwide, including on the famous Grand Ole Opry stage.

But a performance in Orange Beach on Sunday is extra special to them.

They will celebrate the life of someone they consider family — David “D-Mac” McGee.

A “special person,” the woman said, who left the world too soon.

‘Come over and play a show’

The band’s members expressed gratitude for McGee, who offered them a place to play as struggling artists.

“There’s a realness I feel like comes from being down south, and D-Mac was from Texas, and I think he met us and right away went, ‘Oh my God, these are my people,” singer-songwriter Danica Hart said.

McGee owned DMAC’S Bar & Grill in Orange Beach and New Orleans, where the ladies of Chapel Hart first met him.

“Whenever we met him, he was like, ‘You know what? Somebody told me about you girls — whenever you want, come over and play a show,” singer Trea Swindle said.

“And we did a show, and after our first show there, he was like, ‘Oh my goodness, really whenever you want, come play a show.”

    ‘A larger-than-life personality’

WKRG spoke with McGee’s fiance, Stephanie Maerke, who said the best word to describe him is “genuine.”

“He was one of those people who had a larger-than-life personality,” said Maerke.

According to family and friends, McGee’s love for music was infectious.

The ladies of Chapel Hart said McGee gave them advice in their career that they will always hold close to them.

“He was like, ‘Always stay true to y’all,” said singer Devynn Hart. “He was like, ‘Don’t let Nashville or the music industry or anybody sway y’all from being who you are.’

“And he was like, ‘Keep the sound that you like and keep the vibe that you like.”

    A benefit concert

Chapel Hart will perform a memorial concert for McGee on Sunday, 6:30-9:30 p.m., at DMACS in Orange Beach.

The group will also perform new songs from their unreleased Christmas album during the event.

As for DMACS restaurant, Maerke told us big things are coming at the Orange Beach location.

Anyone interested in attending the concert on Sunday can purchase tickets on Ticketleap . General admission costs $37.75; VIP tickets cost $53.50.
