You’ll Never Guess How Much Money This Iowa Man Won in the Lottery
No win is too small to celebrate when playing the Iowa lottery! This Des Moines man is my new hero and I think everyone can get a good laugh from his story. Usually, when you hear about Iowa lottery winners, you hear a story about a win worth thousands, hundreds of thousands, or even millions of dollars. Tyler's story doesn't involve life-changing money that sets up his entire family. It doesn't even involve money he could use on a house for a downpayment, money he could use to buy his dream car or money that could send him on a lavish vacation.

DNR: Pheasant, quail populations likely impacted by Missouri River flooding
(KMAland) -- Iowa Department of Natural Resources officials say flooding along the Missouri River could impact some upland game species. That's according to Iowa DNR Wildlife Biologist Matt Dollison, who discussed the flood's impact on wildlife during the latest "Outdoors in KMAland" segment. After torrential rains sparked severe flooding in northwest Iowa, those floodwaters have worked down the Missouri River, triggering flood warnings through Rulo, Nebraska. Dollison says the DNR oversees nearly 10,000 acres along the river, most of which fall west of the levee system. With it being just after the peak hatch for pheasants and nearing the peak hatch for quails in Iowa, Dollison says the floodwaters likely impacted more nests on the west side of the levees.
Changing Climate Contributes to Record Tornado Season
Weather researchers at Iowa State University say a shifting climate and warmer ocean temperatures are partially responsible for a record number of tornadoes this spring. More than 100 were reported in Iowa, in May alone. Eleven hundred tornadoes were reported regionwide in May, from Texas to Minnesota and from West Virginia to Georgia. That’s more than twice the 30-year average. One of the fiercest killed five people and injured dozens in rural Greenfield, Iowa.

New law increases penalties for swatting/hoax callers
MARION, Iowa (KCRG) - One of the many laws going into effect Monday adds harsher penalties to swatting call charges. Swatting is when somebody makes a hoax call to law enforcement to get a response. We’ve seen this happen at several schools and businesses here in Eastern Iowa over the last year, often resulting in dozens of police officers flocking to a scene when there is actually no danger.
