    Lightning strikes tree, causes house fire in Orange Park

    A family’s home is damaged after lightning struck a nearby tree and caused a house fire on Saturday evening.

    The fire happened on Coppitt Drive South in Orange Park.

    Chris Current, the homeowner, told Action News Jax Shanila Kabir he was home with his family, including children, at the time.

    According to Clay County officials, there were no injuries.

    However, Clay County Fire Rescue is working with the Red Cross to find other accommodations for those who live in the house because of a safety hazard. Current said his family is staying at a hotel for the rest of the weekend.

    It took the fire department almost 45 minutes to put out the fire, according to Current.
