Calcasieu Parish no longer under shelter in place order after warehouse fire
WESTLAKE - A portion of Calcasieu Parish was placed under a shelter-in-place order Tuesday after a fire at a chemical facility. The order has since been lifted. The affected area extended to about a quarter-mile south of the BioLab facility in Westlake. BioLab is a chemical engineering facility off I-10.

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A second arrest has been made in connection to the June 22 shooting on Ernest Street that left one man dead. A 16-year-old boy was arrested today in Carencro, according to the Lake Charles Police Department. The arrest was made with the assistance of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Inmate mistakenly released from a Calcasieu Parish jail has a long criminal history
LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - An inmate who was mistakenly released from a Calcasieu Parish jail has a long criminal history. Xavier Johnwell, 31, of Lake Charles, was serving time in East Carroll Parish for charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and second-offense illegal carrying of weapons. He returned to the Calcasieu Correctional Center for a court appearance, and deputies “inadvertently” released him on June 12, according to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Child's murderer still not found, case is open
Another year has gone by, making 22 years since the kidnapper and killer of four-year-old Dannarriah Finley still hasn't been arrested. The sleeping child was kidnapped sometime in the early morning of July 4, 2002, from the small house in the 1000 block Fourth Street where she lived with her mother and siblings. The house could be seen from Park Avenue, a thoroughfare leading to Simmons Drive and the nearby Sabine River.
Firefighters assist with two structure fires Saturday
DEQUINCY, La. (KPLC) - Firefighters across Southwest Louisiana banded together in both Carlyss and Moss Bluff Saturday to fight two separate structure fires. Around 5 p.m., Ward Six Fire Protection District No. One, Engine 19, Unit 901 and the mobile air trailer responded with eight firefighters to a mutual aid request from Carlyss Fire Department for a structure fire.

During the last two weeks, the DeQuincy Police Dept. officers have been working on a rash of vandalism crimes and numerous other crimes such as theft and unauthorized use of motor vehicles. The crimes were vandalism at the Granite company, burglary of vehicles, defacing with graffiti at numerous locations around DeQuincy, the theft of a firearm, the defacing of numerous stop signs, and burglary of an inhabited dwelling.
