Your Oregon News asked readers whether they like to go off-roading. About 35% of readers said no.

On the other hand, about 30% of reader respondents said they love off-roading as a hobby, and modify their vehicle. About 24% said they like to off-road, infrequently.

About 6% of readers like to watch others drive off-road, and another 6% like to go off-roading on vacation of seasonally, they said.

About 18% of readers said they have only gone off-roading once, and another 18% have never tried it and don’t want to.

About 30% of readers said they go off-roading often, and another 41% said they go often.

Some readers said off-roading can contribute to air pollution and wildlife habitat destruction, and can be damaging to the environment if done in the wrong areas.

Here’s what our readers said they like about off-roading, and what their favorite off-road vehicle is:

“Anything with 4-wheel-drive, decent clearance, and good tires.”

“A 1976 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 with a 6-cylinder diesel, factory ordered, and factory power take-offs for winching, 4-speed oversized bumpers, no lift and lights all around, or a 1973 Land Rover 110 with 300TD. I had both of these while in growing up in Alaska.”

“1990s Suburbans are the best, especially if they've been lifted. New cars aren't ideal for off-roading because they get damaged, and are more difficult to repair. The ideal cars can be slept in and used for longer overlanding expeditions.”

“I like getting to places off the beaten track, with spectacular views and camping out. I hate seeing trash left behind by others, or malicious destruction of the landscape. My favorite off-roader is the Land Rover and the Range Rover because they are very capable and outstanding line of vehicles. I have driven in Africa, the Pacific Northwest, and Moab. They are always capable, and never let me down.”

“Off-roading is fun in areas appropriate for such activity. I like the sand dunes, as well as unimproved forest service roads.”

“I like to get to remote locations with less people. I do not like damaging roads nor terrain.”
