Three Heisman Trophy hopefuls from Georgia, Oregon, and Texas are hogging all the action at sports books

The 2024 College Football season is just a few short weeks away and the hype surrounding yet another year of the greatest sport ever played is beginning to build. Fans everywhere have begun placing their bets as to who will win the Heisman Trophy this year for being the best player in the entire country. But who will actually win it this season? And who are most fans actually putting their money on?

BetMGM just released their updated Heisman betting insights and statistics this week to the press and there were certainly a few instant takeaways. Perhaps the most glaringly obvious were the top three quarterbacks this year according to the fans. But are they actually the three most likely players to win?

    Carson Beck, QB Georgia

Carson Beck waited until his fourth season removed from high school to get his shot as the starting quarterback at Georgia and it looks like that paid off. Beck led the Bulldogs to another undefeated regular season throwing for nearly 4000 yards and scoring 28 total touchdowns.

Although he was inconsistent or slow to start in a few games his ball placement on a number of throws last season was absolutely spectacular. Just look at this dime to Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint against Kentucky last year:

Right now Carson Beck accounts for 9.8% all of Heisman Trophy tickets at BetMGM, leading all college football players at any position. He also ranks third in total handle (actual dollars bet) behind only Dillon Gabriel (QB, Oregon) and Travis Hunter (CB, Colorado).

The real question with Beck will be whether or not he can find the same level of success this year with a completely new set of weapons. Brock Bowers, Ladd McConkey, and Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint--three of his top four receiving options last year--are all now in the NFL. Plus, Rara Thomas just got arrested (again) and may miss some time. If Beck can produce at the same level as he did in 2023 with Dominic Lovett (returning slot WR) and a whole new band of characters to throw to this fall he'll certainly be in the mix for the Heisman.

    Dillon Gabriel, QB Oregon

There may not be a more intriguing transfer in all of college football than Dillon Gabriel. He's started a whopping 50 games in his time as quarterback for UCF and Oklahoma. He's just over 4000 yards and 30 touchdowns away from setting all-time college football career records in both categories.

The Ducks are looking to make a push to win a national championship this year with one of the best rosters the program has ever seen and Dillon Gabriel looks primed to take advantage. As he put it at Big Ten Media Days, "Oregon was a very easy decision, probably the easiest decision of my life."

Gabriel currently accounts for nearly 14% of all dollars bet on the Heisman (at BetMGM), which leads all college football players. He's second in terms of total individual bets placed. Third in highest liability for sports books. The masses are very, very high on Dillon Gabriel.

And they should be. Gabriel has Evan Stewart (former five star stud WR), Tez Johnson (one of the fastest WRs in the nation), plus potentially the best offensive line in the country helping prop him up this fall. If he stays healthy--and he's struggled to before--there's no reason he won't be a Heisman finalist.

    Quinn Ewers, QB Texas

Despite what Arch Manning truthers want to believe, Quinn Ewers is still very much the starting quarterback at Texas and will most certainly start every single game for the Longhorns this fall when he's healthy. And as it turns out, many sharp sports bettors agree.

After Ewers defeated Alabama at Bryant-Denny stadium and took Texas to the College Football Playoff he's garnered quite a bit of confidence this year at sports books. 9.5% of all Heisman Trophy tickets at BetMGM have been placed on Ewers to win. This shouldn't surprise anyone who saw him drop dimes left and right last season, especially when targeting future first round pick Xavier Worthy.

Ewers completed almost 70% of his passes last year, scored 27 total touchdowns, and despite missing two games still finished Top 15 in passing yards on the season last fall. He should be back firmly in the mix this year for all the typically overvalued raw total stats that Heisman voters love to see.
