Hundreds of millions of dollars spent on delivering internet service yet large gaps remain
Since 2019, Wisconsin has allocated more than $345 million in state and federal funds to expand high-speed internet in the state, yet there are still more than 181,000 locations without service, according to a 2024 Governor’s Task Force on Broadband Access report released Thursday. The funding will support new and improved service for more than 410,000 homes and businesses, but more work remains to close access gaps, the report noted. ...

Wisconsin football promotes three key staffers to assistant coach roles
Wisconsin football elevated staffers Jack Cooper, Casey Rabach and Eric Raisbeck to assistant coaching roles on Thursday, per a release from the program. Cooper will become Wisconsin’s assistant secondary coach this fall after working as a senior defensive analyst in 2023. He joined UW’s program in the spring of 2023 after a successful three-year stint as the defensive coordinator at the University of Rhode Island.
More layoffs at freight-related firms: 607 workers cut across 4 states
Layoffs continue across the commercial transportation and freight industry, according to a new round of worker reduction notices in Florida, Texas, Illinois and Wisconsin. It is the second round of layoffs since the beginning of July. Averitt Express, Bath & Body Works Logistics Services, ShipBob, and Henry Avocado Corp. announced a total of 218 layoffs earlier in the month.
