Forum announced for Democratic candidates running for 96th Assembly District
The League of Women Voters of the La Crosse Area announced this week they will sponsor a candidate forum between the Democratic candidates for the 96th Wisconsin Assembly District race in the 2024 Primary Election on Wednesday, July 31,. The forum will be live streamed at 6:30 p.m. on our LWVLA YouTube channel — 96th Assembly Primary Forum. A recording of the forum will continue to be available for viewing on this channel and on our website lwvlacrosse.org.

Stories you might have missed form across Wisconsin. Madison: Whooping cough outbreak hits Wisconsin. There’s another respiratory illness popping up this year and medical professionals are calling it “the tip of the iceberg”. This week public health Madison and Dane County reported an outbreak of pertussis or as it’s more commonly known, whooping cough. At this point the outbreak has affected 43 people over the last eight weeks. The majority of the illnesses happened in teens. Dr, James Conway, a Wisconsin physician who specializes in infectious disease in children told the Wisconsin Examiner “It’s becoming more and more apparent that there’s the beginnings of an outbreak happening.”Wisconsin has logged 226 cases of pertussis this year, up from 51 cases in 2023.Symptoms of the easily spread upper respiratory illness include runny nose, maybe a scratchy throat but after about a week patients develop a persistent cough that lasts for weeks with its signature “whoop” sound. Council approves TID 11 plans
The City of Verona Common Council unanimously approved the creation of Tax Incremental District (TID) 11 at its Monday, July 22 meeting. Located to the north and west of Epic Systems’ existing campus, TID 11 will fund public infrastructure projects and road improvements that support Epic’s growth.
