Putting EATS Act in farm bill would be a gift for corporate agriculture

When the House Agriculture Committee marked up its draft farm bill in late May, representatives included a provision that’s a big gift for the corporate livestock industry. Dubbed the EATS Act (Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression), the measure would strip state and local governments of their ability to enact policies that protect our air, land and water from problems caused by factory farms.
Reminder of Closures in Major Guthrie County Towns for July 4th
The 4th of July is tomorrow, and many people will be celebrating, meaning there will be many businesses and services that are closed in Guthrie County. In Stuart, City Hall and the Utilities Office will both be closed tomorrow, and return to regular hours Friday. The Stuart Public Library will be closed until Monday in observance of the holiday. Garbage services will not be affected.
Fireworks Ordinances for the Main Towns of Guthrie County
The 4th of July is this week, and residents of the major towns of Guthrie County need to remember the ordinances related to fireworks. In Guthrie Center and Panora, fireworks are not allowed within city limits. For Stuart, fireworks are allowed from June 1st to July 8th, and can only be lit on private property. Additionally, fireworks can only be shot off between the hours of 9am and 10pm, except for July 4th and the Saturdays and Sundays directly preceding and following the holiday, when they are allowed between 9am and 11pm for Stuart residents to remember.
