An Orient man accused of murder and voluntary manslaughter has been sentenced to life in prison.

In March, Marty Ray Dotson Jr., 44, pleaded guilty to murder and voluntary manslaughter.

Last week, Dotson was sentenced to 26 years to life in prison — maximum possible sentence — before Pickaway County Common Pleas Judge Randall Knece.

When Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office arrested Dotson of Darby Creek Road for a double homicide that occurred Oct. 23 in Orient, he was charged with four counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault, kidnapping and two counts of abuse of a corpse.

The Sheriff’s Office received a phone call around 10:52 p.m. about a person who found a relative dead at 10117 US Route 62 Lot 32 in Orient.

When deputies arrived on the scene a short time later, they located two males dead in a back bedroom. Craig T. Dewitt, 58, and Cory A. Moore, 22, both of Orient, were identified as the deceased, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Dewitt and Moore were transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy.

The autopsy revealed both Dewitt and Moore had multiple stab wounds.

The homicide charges are variations of the murder statute — one is a straight up murder charge and the second is what is referred to as “felony murder” which means it occurred in the course of another felony. This is a frequent charging practice when the prosecutor doesn’t have all the information yet to decide what variety of murder to charge.

The felonious assault charges are also against the two victims. The prosecutor would charge those in case she wasn’t able to prove he caused their deaths, but that he did attack them.

As to the abuse of a corpse charges, Dotson was charged because he allegedly moved the bodies, according to court documents.

As to the kidnapping, Dotson was charged with kidnapping a female, according to court documents.
