Orland woman killed in vehicle crash

A 45-year-old woman from Orland died on May 24 when she crashed her 2004 Honda Accord on County Road M at County Road 24 in the Willows area, officials said.

The Glenn County Coroner’s office identified the deceased as Alma Battista-Michel.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Michel was driving east on CR 24 approaching a stop sign around 8:04 a.m., at the intersection with CR M.

Michel reportedly failed to stop at the stop sign and continued into the intersection in the pathway of a southbound 2016 Jeep Rubicon driven by Sandy Barragan, 27, of Orland.

The Jeep collided with the driver's side of the Honda, causing the Jeep to spin around coming to rest in the intersection, CHP reported.

Michel’s vehicle was pushed in a southern direction as it spun around coming to rest east of CR M, officials said.

Michel was transported to Glenn Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased by medical staff, CHP said. Barragan was taken to Enloe Medical Center in Chico for treatment of minor injuries.
