Football Announces 2024 Recruiting Class
MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineer sprint football program and seventh-year head coach John Evans introduces their 28 members to the team for the 2024 season. Branching across seven positions, the coaching staff landed athletes from Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. The Mounties landed 16 offensive athletes and 12 defensive players.
US Army Corps of Engineers to update master plan for Almond Lake and the Arkport Dam
Land Classification changes could have big impact, public comment period open until August 14. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District (USACE- Baltimore) is in the process of updating the Master Plans for the USACE owned and operated Almond Lake and Arkport Dam. The purpose of the Almond Lake 2024 Master Plan and the Arkport Dam 2024 Master Plan is to provide guidance for stewardship of natural resources and management for long-term public access to, and use of, the natural resources at Almond Lake and Arkport Dam, including the land classification of the USACE-managed lands. Land classifications are established in the 2024 Master Plans and are fundamental to project land management. Land classifications provide for development and resource management consistent with authorized purposes and other federal laws. The 2024 Master Plans provide a comprehensive description of the USACE project, a discussion of factors influencing resource management and development, new resource management objectives, a synopsis of public involvement and input into the planning process, descriptions of existing development, and considerations of future development activities.
Elmira City School District to provide students with free school supplies
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Elmira City School District announced Wednesday that school supplies will be given to every attending student for free in the upcoming school year. In a news release, the district said the move is to ensure equal access to supplies for students and will help promote academic success. The plan is also meant to save parents and guardians money. The school says buying in bulk will let them get supplies for well less that what families would spend on their own.

October trial set in Ramos murder case in Potter County
COUDERSPORT, Pa. — A trial in October has been scheduled for two women charged in the 2020 torture and murder of Joshua Ramos, 19, in Potter County. Krysten Lauren Crosby, 25, of Tioga, and Felicia Cary, 38, of Galeton, both face the death penalty in the trial slated for Oct. 7 to 18. The cases have been joined for trial.
