Jones Memorial Hospital birthing center receives donation from local church
WELLSVILLE — The Dr. F. Clifton Miller Birthing Center at Jones Memorial Hospital received a donation of nearly $1,200 from the Andover First Baptist Church. Church members competed in teams — "girls vs. boys" — to collect change May 12 through June 16 for the initiative. In just over a month, the boys raised $603.45, while the girls raised $585.65, thanks to a last-minute donation.
Severe thunderstorms leave much of Southern Tier without power, downed trees, other damage
Thousands of electric customers across the Twin Tiers lost power when severe thunderstorms rumbled through the region Monday. Many of those residents remained without power Tuesday and into Wednesday, and utility company crews scrambled to restore service while other emergency responders worked to remove downed trees and deal with other damage the storm left in its wake.
Sports Roundup: Lizards offense comes up short in loss to Steamers
HORNELL — The Salamanca Lizards’ negative trend continued on July 13 as they fell to the Hornell Steamers for their eighth loss in their last nine games. As has been the case over the course of their last few fixtures, the Lizards offense flexed its might early on, but were unable to produce with consistency as they lost 7-3 to the NYCBL West Division-leading Steamers.
Monday's storm results in downed trees, power outages
A summer storm Monday night wreaked havoc across Tioga County from downed trees, sheared utility poles and power outages. According to Nathan Wiles, owner of Wiles Valley Weather, LLC, the storm traveling from the southwest to northeast between 5 and 5:40 p.m. July 15 initially only had the potential for 40 mph winds. However, as it approached Wellsboro, it quickly grew when it hit an unstable air mass.
North Pocono Senior Center joins county network
A senior center offering services three days a week in the North Pocono region is now affiliated with the Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging. The North Pocono Senior Community Center in Covington Twp. recently joined the county's network, with the Area Agency on Aging funding meals and activities at the center open to all older adults free of charge. The center at 6 John J. Michaels Drive operates Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Maestro Stephen Gunzenhauser and the Festival Orchestra are opening the Endless Mountain Music Festival’s 2024 17-Day Season with three performances this weekend. Tioga Publishing is proud to announce their 2024 All-Star selections for the boys’ tennis season where Galeton led the way with an incredible season. Galeton turned in a 14-3 record overall in 2024 and was the only area team to reach the second round of the District 4 Playoffs with a first-round victory over Wellsboro before falling in the second round to the powerhouse Lewisburg squad.
Elkland abruptly adjourns meeting
Elkland Borough Council failed to handle agenda business at the July 11 meeting after the agenda was rearranged without comment. After calling the meeting to order, council President Wendy Sherman Graham called an executive session for personnel and legal matters, originally scheduled for later in the meeting. Those attending the meeting were told to leave the building.
