BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) - Bradenton Police Department’s Elder Fraud Unit investigated a case involving a victim being tricked into believing she had missed a court date. According to officials, the victim was told she’d missed a federal court date and had to pay a fine to avoid being held in contempt of court.

Gym chain shuttering Fort Myers, Cape Coral locations, cutting 108 jobs
The New York Sports Club is shutting down three Lee County gyms and will lay off more than 100 employees. The chain notified the state of its intentions in a letter Monday stating that the closings would be effective Sept. 1. Employees have been notified that all the layoffs are permanent.

Operation Southern Slow Down: Effort to combat speeding to save lives
TALLAHASSEE, FL (352today.com) – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is trying to put the brakes on unsafe driving. FDOT in partnership with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) and the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is conducting Operation Southern Slow Down 2024. The week-long speed enforcement and education campaign kicked off on Monday.
