ELMORE, Ohio — An Elyria man was killed and an Elyria woman was injured when a sport-utility vehicle struck a tractor-trailer Wednesday on the Ohio Turnpike near Elmore.

Kenneth Klingshirn, 92, a front-seat passenger in the SUV, was pronounced dead at the scene in Ottawa County’s Harris Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Milan post.

Doris Klingshirn, 78, the driver of the SUV, was taken to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center with minor injuries, the patrol said in a news release.

The semi, driven by Jarrel Harrington, 37, of Windsor Mill, Md., was stopped in the roadway on the westbound turnpike about a mile east of the Elmore-Woodville-Gibsonburg exit because of a mechanical issue. Around 12:35 p.m., it was struck in the rear by the westbound Klingshirn SUV.

Mr. Harrington was treated at the scene by EMS for “possible injuries,” the patrol said.

The patrol did not say whether the occupants of the SUV and the semi wore seatbelts. The crash remains under investigation.

Elmore, which straddles Ottawa and Sandusky counties, is about 20 miles southeast of Toledo.
