The season of fall is soon to arrive and snow is on the radar for some of Colorado's tallest peaks over upcoming days. Before you get too excited, know that it's not much snow – but it is enough to impact some high country plans.

As fall gets closer and temperatures start dropping, snow showers are set to become more common on Centennial State fourteeners. According to the latest Mountain Forecast report, flurries should sporadically fall on some mountaintops between Tuesday and Sunday of next week.

A few of the peaks where snow is expected include Mount Yale on Tuesday (one inch), Longs Peak on Thursday and next Saturday (about two inches total), and Mount Sneffels next Sunday (about an inch). The list does, however, go on.

While forecasted totals are, as noted, quite low, the incoming weather serves as a reminder that alpine starts may come with slick conditions, as well as that mid-day flurries may drastically drop visibility for mountain climbers.

Those planning to summit some of Colorado's highest peaks this fall should plan ahead, tossing warmer layers and some sort of traction in their bag should snowy conditions or freezing rain rear its head.

As is always the case, those headed into the backcountry should monitor weather forecasts diligently and have a plan for what to do should conditions suddenly change.
