Here's when the next round of snow is expected on Colorado peaks

The season's first round of noteworthy snow officially hit Colorado's peaks this week, dropping a couple inches in some parts of the state. While warmer weekend temperatures are expected to melt this dusting, images from Thursday morning captured a drastic departure from summer conditions that have been present for several months.

This serves as a reminder that fourteener climbers should now be planning for potential fall conditions on mountains, with light snow having the potential to mean slick conditions and a serious uptick in risk when it comes to mountain climbing, especially on scramble-heavy 'class three' and above peaks – not to mention cooler temperatures on all peaks that will require warmer layers of clothing.

While this weekend should be dry and warm around most of Colorado, another round of light snow is on the radar to hit the state next week.

Based on the reports from Mountain-Forecast.com , a couple more inches of snow could fall in high-elevation areas on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Under similar conditions this week, snow fell as low as 11,000 to 12,000 feet of elevation, according to the National Weather Service .

For most Coloradans, this precipitation will just mean heavy rain, which can always come with flooding and visibility risks. Impacts due to snow should be low to non-existent.

Find a full state forecast on the National Weather Service website here and find peak specific forecasts on Mountain-Forecast.com . Always check the weather forecast before any outdoor adventure.
