KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The City of Overland Park announced on Tuesday that the Bluejacket Pool will officially be closing on Aug. 6 after hosting more than half a century of summer fun for the community.

According to the city, the 51-year-old pool has faced significant water loss and exponential repair costs.

In the 2025 season review for Bluejacket Pool’s repairs, it was revealed that more than four million gallons of water were expected to be lost, increasing the costs to more than $20,000 for replacement water and chemicals.

As well as this, the city said an extra $15,000 would have to go toward “basic safety maintenance.”

Although the Bluejacket Pool will be closing near the end of the 2024 pool season, the city plans to host a Final Splash Bash on its final day from 5-7 p.m. The event will have games, music, treats, and the admission will be free.

Overland Park also has several other outdoor pools for the community to enjoy, including Stonegate Pool, Tomahawk Ridge Aquatic Center and Young’s Pool.
