The rain and weather halted the Faribault VFW baseball team to play games over the weekend, but they returned to action against the Owatonna VFW 9 team on Tuesday night.

Ben Cunniff was the starting pitcher for Faribault and pitched the entirety of the seven-inning game, only allowing three runs to Owatonna.

Owatonna scored one run in the first inning, but Faribault responded with a leadoff single by Ben Cunniff, who went on to score to tie the game up . A wild pitch scored another run in the inning, giving Faribault a 2-1 lead at the end of the first.

Both teams had a scoreless second inning, and Owatonna tied the game up to make it 2-2 in the top of the third. Faribault drew five total walks in the bottom of the third, which allowed them to score three runs to take a 5-2 lead.

Faribault took a commanding lead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs in the inning for a 10-2 lead.

Owatonna scored a run in the top of the sixth inning, but the damage was already done. Faribault added to their lead in the sixth by scoring two runs in the bottom half of the second. Cunniff shut down Owatonna in order in the top of the seventh to close out the game with Faribault winning 12-3.

Cunniff held Owatonna to just four hits while Faribault had seven hits. Faribault takes on Rochester JM on Wednesday and heads over to Albert Lea on Thursday for an away game. The team will also travel to Winona this weekend for a double header against Winona's VFW Buddies 16U team.
