The Owatonna Legion Post 77 baseball team ended its regular season on a high note Thursday night against the Rochester Century Legion team, who go by the Rochester A’s.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, Owatonna came back to win the game 8-3. The win was its fourth in a row, as Owatonna goes into the playoffs on a positive streak.

Mitch Seykora started the game as Owatonna’s pitcher. He was coming off a stellar performance Sunday when he pitched a five-inning no-hitter against Byron.

After struggling in the first inning, Seykora settled in and pitched a scoreless three innings before being relieved by Jace Ulrich in the top of the fifth.

Owatonna scored one run in the first off of a single by Connor Wiese that scored leadoff batter Gavin Saxton. After a scoreless second inning for both teams, Owatonna took the lead in the third after scoring two runs.

Mitch Seykora hit a one-out single and immediately advanced to third base after a double by Connor Wiese. A two-out baulk by Rochesters pitcher scored a run to give Owatonna a 3-2 lead.

Seykora got in trouble in the fourth inning, as he had the bases loaded with just one out in the top of the fourth. But two straight strikeouts ended the inning and ended his pitching for the night after a solid outing.

Owatonna added two more runs in the fourth as Jace Ulrich came into pitch in the fifth with a 5-2 lead. Ulrich gave up two singles to start the inning which scored a run, but he got out of the inning after a groundout and two flyouts.

Owatonna scored three runs in the sixth to have Connor Wiese, who started pitching in the sixth inning, pitch the seventh inning with an 8-3 lead. Wiese retired the side to have Owatonna win their last regular season game.

On top of their pitching performances, Seykora, Wiese, and Ulrich contributed offensively in a great way with Seykora going 2-3 with an RBI and a walk, Wiese going 2-3 with an RBI, and Ulrich walking two times.

Catcher Hunter Theis also had a solid game, going 2-3 with an RBI. Owatonna will start the playoffs on Sunday at Chuck Fuller Field. The time and opponent of the game is yet to be determined.
