HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – A Service of Remembrance has been planned for baby Miya Rudd.

According to Miya’s obituary by Glenn Family Services, she was born in Owensboro on October 12, 2023. The obituary states she was called Smiley by those closest to her and had a special bond with her brother. It also states she was just beginning to master learning to sit up on her own.

“The sadness of Miya’s untimely departure can be coupled with the joy that she’s resting in the arms of Jesus for eternity,” the obituary says. “The smile she left us allows everyone to remember the joy she brought into our lives and the love she radiated so effortlessly will be a love we can return to with a smile when remembering who she was. She’s resting peacefully, in a place with unfathomable joy, watching over us with that same angelic smile that captured our hearts from the very beginning.”

Since Kentucky State Police launched an investigation for baby Miya, Eyewitness News has been following the case.

Baby Miya was reported missing last month following a welfare check. Since then, four people have been arrested and charged in connection to the following investigation.

    • Brodie Payne

Bodily remains were found in a duffle bag in mid-June in a home on Hardin Lane in Reynolds Station that authorities say we consistent with baby Miya. The remains were sent off to the Ohio County Coroner’s Office and the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office.

The coroner’s office states there is no confirmation on the identity of the remains, nor any autopsy results available at this time.

“This is an ongoing investigation and as soon as results are in, or a confirmation of identity has been established, we will be happy to provide that information,” officials said. “It could possibly be a few weeks longer before results are final.”

Since then, people have been trying to get the law changed to better protect new babies born to homes where siblings have been removed called “ Miya’s Law “.
