A New Port Richey woman was arrested for trespassing when she sat in front of Publix and refused to leave despite being asked by police. An officer responded to Publix, located at 10601 U.S. Hwy. 441 in Leesburg, regarding a suspicious person around 10:37 a.m. Monday, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. Dispatch advised that the caller, an employee of the business, stated 62-year-old Krystal Lynn Barnett was sitting in front of the business refusing to leave.
Villager escapes prosecution in shoplifting case at Walmart
A Villager has escapee prosecution in a shoplifting case after successfully completing an anti-theft course. Karon Rae Stockman, 68, of the Village of St. James, will not face prosecution on the theft charge, according to an announcement of no information earlier this month in Sumter County Court. Stockman had been allowed to enter into a pre-trial intervention contract which required her to complete a four-hour anti-theft course and to complete a weekend of work detail in Sumter County.

A Villager has been arrested after police responded to a report of bad behavior at a town square. An officer was called at about 10:30 p.m. Monday to Spanish Springs Town Square after a man, later identified as 73-year-old Seelye Eldredge Little of the Village of Rio Grande, approached a 12-year-old girl and told her she was “hot,” according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. He offered to purchase the girl a beer.

A stolen vehicle was recovered from a homeless man with a suspended license and a Leesburg woman with meth, announced the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. On July 6, a deputy was on patrol in the Fruitland Park area when he ran a license plate query on a vehicle and discovered the vehicle was stolen out of Leesburg. Leesburg woman charged with insurance fraud after allegedly using old car damage photo
A Leesburg woman was arrested for insurance fraud when she used photos of her vehicle from a prior fraudulent case for over $2,400 in repairs. On Feb. 1, 52-year-old Rhonda Michelle Gilbert called Dairyland Insurance to file a claim for damage to her vehicle, according to an affidavit of probable cause out of Lake County. The vehicle she was calling about was her black 2014 Ford Taurus, but she did not know her policy number. She gave an address of 1107 Johnson Street, Apartment A in Leesburg, and her phone number, the affidavit said.
