Ivey League: Football’s a learned love for Chris Hardie, Ole Miss’ newest ‘Landshark’

Star Ole Miss football defender Jared Ivey is joined in this all-new edition of the ‘Ivey League’ by the newest ‘Landshark’ for the Rebels, Jacksonville State transfer defensive lineman Chris Hardie.

Hardie, in May, committed to Ole Miss over Oklahoma and his former defensive coordinator, Zach Alley.

“The facilities were one thing,” Hardie said. “My old school, it’s better now than it was when I first got there. Our head coach now, Rich Rod, he really took the place and turned it around. I applaud him for that. But once I got here, I realized, OK, this is something that makes y’all different. I could utilize these resources, ‘cause I haven’t been getting them.

“And the players. I’m a guy that talks to anybody; I can talk to a brick wall. It’s not hard for me to communicate, but it could be hard for people who are not like that to transition. Y’all make it easy. When I got here, Day 1, y’all treated me like ya’ll been knowing me two, three years.”

Hardie was a multi-year starter for the Gamecocks.

He was first-team All-CUSA last season after totaling 61 tackles, 16 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks. Hardie produced 162 total tackles over four years for JSU. He added 46.5 TFLs, 21.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, two passes defended and an interception.
