With SEC media days underway in Dallas, Texas, all 16 conference head coaches will have an opportunity to speak with the press during the four-day event.

On the first day of the event, Mississippi head coach Lane Kiffin was one of the first at  the podium.

While most of the questions focused on how the Ole Miss football team will be this season, one question addressed Kiffin's dad, Monte, who passed away on July 11 at the age of 84.

The Rebels head coach did not go into much detail about his father's passing. He said that would be saved for Saturday when there is a celebration of life planned in Tampa for the late Kiffin. But he left the audience in Dallas with some touching words about his father.

"Hero's not really the right term for him. It's superhero. And that's what he was to the people he touched," Kiffin said.

The late Kiffin was considered one of the best defensive minds in the game for decades. He spent nearly 30 years in the NFL as an assistant coach. During his time as defensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team won Super Bowl XXXVII. He was also an assistant coach for Tennessee and USC while Lane was the head coach.
