Ole Miss’ Jackson Ross selected by the Washington Nationals in 2024 MLB Draft

Ole Miss Baseball’s Jackson Ross became the first Rebel selected in the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft Monday evening, as he was picked by the Washington Nationals in the ninth round. Ross was the 260 ^th overall pick in the draft.

Ross’ selection continues a streak of 36-consecutive MLB drafts with a Rebel being selected. Over the last six drafts there have now been 25 Rebels selected with still a full day left in the 2024 edition.

In his one season with Ole Miss, Ross was the only player to start all 56 games starting 35 games at first base, 12 in left field, five in right field, and four as the designated hitter. The senior led the team in runs scored (52), walks (55), and sacrifice flies (5). He finished second on the team in on base percentage (.438) and RBI (49) and third on the team in slugging percentage (.492), home runs (10), and total bases (95).

Ross posted the fourth-most walks by a Rebel in a single season with 55 free passes, falling just six walks shy of the single-season record held by Thomas Dillard.

Prior to coming to Ole Miss for the 2024 season, Ross spent two seasons at Florida Atlantic and two seasons at Pasco-Hernando State College. Ross started 115 games over two seasons at FAU and was named to the All-C-USA First Team at the end of the 2023 season.

Ross is a native of Lakeland, Florida and played his high school baseball at George Jenkins High School.

The third and final day of the 2024 MLB Draft begins Tuesday at 1 p.m.
