Lamar County accident Thursday claims life of Hattiesburg woman
LAMAR COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - A 25-year-old woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Lamar County Thursday afternoon. Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel said the accident happened around 3 p.m. Thursday in the 700 block of Purvis-Baxterville Road when a vehicle carrying two people left the road and hit a tree.

SUMMARY: Members of the Class of '65 from Siggers High School, the first high school for African Americans in Shannon, Mississippi, aim to honor their legacy of struggle and triumph by securing a historical marker for the site. Now the location of Shannon Elementary, only one original building remains. District Sixteen Representative Rickey Thompson supports fundraising efforts for the marker, which would highlight the significance of African American education prior to integration.
