Green Bay Packers Projected To Make Surprising Move At QB

The Green Bay Packers are set to play their final preseason game of the year on Saturday afternoon against the Baltimore Ravens. While it’s just a preseason game, there are major battles going on at a few different positions.

One of the main battles comes at the backup quarterback position.

Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt have been going head-to-head throughout the preseason and training camp. Right now, it’s anyone’s guess as to who Matt LaFleur and company will end up keeping as the team’s primary backup behind rising superstar Jordan Love.

A prediction has been made for what will happen at the backup quarterback position.

Lombardi Ave writer Sayre Bedinger has predicted that Green Bay will end up cutting young quarterback Sean Clifford. That would mean that the rookie, Pratt, would have won the backup job barring another move.

Speaking of that other potential move, he also predicted that the Packers would end up bringing in a quarterback from outside of the organization.

“Sean Clifford has been an interception merchant all offseason for the Packers, and it’s time for the team to either cut him or make him the clear third quarterback on the depth chart. And the way to do that is to bring in help from the outside. The Packers cannot afford to ‘need’ Sean Clifford for any length of time during the regular season. Not with a player like Ryan Tannehill sitting out there in free agency right now, and a number of other interesting names who could soon be made available via trade. Clifford has just struggled far too much dating back to OTAs to justify his standing as QB2. The Packers need to make a change.”

Throughout the first two weeks of preseason action, Clifford has thrown for 154 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception. He simply has done nothing to make Green Bay feel comfortable with him.

In this scenario, it seems likely that the Packers would try to keep Pratt on the practice squad.

All of that being said, things could change depending on what happens in the preseason finale. If Clifford comes out firing and plays an impressive game, there is a chance that he could stick.

Expect to see both Clifford and Pratt receive quite a bit of playing time. Both players are fighting for their job and it will be interesting to see what kind of performances they put in.
