Green Bay Packers’ Josh Jacobs Fires Brutal Shot At Kansas City Chiefs

The Green Bay Packers made one of the most surprising splashes in free agency this offseason, signing running back Josh Jacobs.

Jacobs spent the first five years of his career with the Las Vegas Raiders (who played in Oakland during is debut campaign), so he obviously is quite familiar with the Kansas City Chiefs.

If the Packers are going to make a Super Bowl run, they may very well end up facing the Chiefs in February. And apparently, Kansas City almost landed Jacobs.

Jacobs told Dan Pompei of The Athletic that the Chiefs heavily pursued him in free agency, but he couldn’t bring himself to take his talents to Arrowhead Stadium.

“[The Chiefs] were trying to get me hard,” Jacobs said. “But there was no way I was going there. I feel like once you are rivals with somebody, you have a genuine hate for them. I couldn’t see myself in that color.”

There was another reason, too: Jacobs did not want to join a superteam.

“And besides, I never wanted to be the guy that joined the dominant team. I want to be the guy that beats the dominant team,” added Jacobs.

That’s certainly an interesting and refreshing mindset, given that many players in most sports would jump at the opportunity to join the most dominant team in the league.

Jacobs is coming off of a disappointing 2023 season in which he rushed for 805 yards and six touchdowns while averaging 3.5 yards per carry. He also caught 37 passes for 296 yards.

To be fair, the 26-year-old missed four games due to injuries, but his lack of efficiency is certainly a bit concerning.

But, in Jacobs’ defense, he didn’t exactly have much help in Las Vegas, as the Raiders had poor quarterback play and a miserable offensive line.

Now, Jacobs is joining a Packers team that has one of the most exciting young signal-callers in the NFL in Jordan Love, plus a more stable offensive line. Additionally, Green Bay has an incredibly deep receiving corps.

Jacobs made a pair of Pro Bowl appearances with the Raiders and also earned a First-Team All-Pro selection in 2022 after leading the league with 1,653 rushing yards. He also posted a robust 4.9 yards per attempt that season.

We’ll see if Josh Jacobs can provide the Green Bay Packers’ offense with a big lift in 2024.
