Page County board hears update on jail bidding process
(Clarinda) -- Project leaders plan to present the bids received on a new Page County jail next week. Meeting in regular session Thursday evening, the Page County Board of Supervisors received an update from Samuels Group's Jeff Curtis on the bidding process for the new Page County jail. Plans call for constructing a roughly 19,700-square-foot facility on the Page County Farm on the south side of Clarinda, which would also house the sheriff's office and 911 dispatch. Curtis says bids were due Thursday afternoon, and they received a total of 15 bids.

Tabletop exercise plays out in Green Plains incident
(Shenandoah) -- Page County officials say a simulated emergency came to life in a chemical vapor release at Shenandoah's Green Plains facility Tuesday morning. Green Plains officials say a third party supplier was performing a transfer from their truck to a tank on site when the vapor release occurred. Devin Mogler, the company's senior vice president of corporate and investor relations, told KMA News the area was immediately evacuated, and all personnel and employees were accounted for. Page County Emergency Management Coordinator Jill Harvey says local agencies responded swiftly to the plant.

Page County board extends law enforcement contract with Essex
(Clarinda) -- The Page County Sheriff's Office plans to provide police coverage for Essex for the remainder of 2024. Meeting in regular session Thursday night, the Page County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a law enforcement contract with the city of Essex to continue serving as the state-required law enforcement agency for the community. The board had approved an identical contract in January to provide the services through July 1st after the city of Shenandoah ended a similar 28E agreement with Essex that had been in place since 2012. Page County Chief Deputy Charles McCalla says the new agreement would extend the sheriff's office services through the end of the calendar year.
