Midler, 78, has been married to Martin von Haselberg since Dec. 16, 1984.

Around the time of their 30th anniversary, Midler said she believed her marriage worked so well because they gave each other space.
“I think the secret is giving each other a lot of lead and a lot of room and not being in each other’s faces all the time,” she told People in November 2014. She said “listening” and willingness to compromise are important factors as well.
She and von Haselberg share one daughter, Sophie von Haselberg, whom they welcomed in 1986.

While speaking to People, the “First Wives Club” actress called Sophie her “greatest accomplishment” — but didn’t take all the credit.
“My husband is probably the greatest father who ever lived. He’s fantastic,” Midler raved.
“He picked up the slack when I was on the road. He taught her a foreign language. He taught her to cook.”
