A Pahokee man died Friday afternoon after his car veered into oncoming traffic on a two-lane road west of Belle Glade and hit another vehicle, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

Eric Thornton, 45, was driving his 2005 Scion xB southbound on State Road 715 around noon on Friday when his car veered into the northbound lane and hit a 2019 Ford F-150 truck traveling the opposite direction, according to a sheriff's office crash report.

Investigators do not yet know why Thornton's car veered into oncoming traffic.

The report said the 27-year-old driver of the F-150 was unable to avoid colliding with the Scion. The driver is from Moore Haven, a small city on the west side of Lake Okeechobee. He sustained minor injuries during the crash.

Thornton was pronounced dead on the scene. There are no charges related to the crash.
