High pressure continues to settle in overhead today, meaning another day of sunshine for the Twin Tiers. The rest of this morning and throughout the afternoon will be mostly sunny. Temperatures today will be cooler and comfortable again with highs in the upper 70s/low 80s.
Horseheads Village Fire Department in Need of Repairs, Upgrades
HORSEHEADS, NY (WENY) -- A facility study of the Horseheads Village Fire Department shows the building is in need of significant repairs and improvements. The results of the facility study on the fire department, conducted by Hunt Engineers, Architects & Surveyors, was presented to the Horseheads Village Board of Trustees Thursday evening. The study found the fire department building was in need of mostly structural and architectural repairs. However, some other components are not up to current code standards, and would need to be updated.

John W. Jones Museum Gets Federal Grant for Expansion
ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- An Elmira museum is getting federal funding to help with its expansion. The John W. Jones Museum at 1248 Davis Street Elmira has been awarded $45,000 from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). The museum preserves the legacy of John W. Jones, who escaped slavery in Virginia the 1840's, and later settled in Elmira. Jones was a key agent on the underground railroad, helping 860 former enslaved people escape to freedom.
