Sons of the American Revolution announce 2024 youth awards program
Sons of the American Revolution have announced their 2024 youth awards program. According to a statement from SAR, among the top mission goals set by the organization is the education of students about the American Revolutionary War events and the individuals who shaped their outcome. Kentucky’s Local Superintendents Advisory Council has mandated the teaching of historical documents and speeches in American history classes that cover the Revolutionary War. The documents include the Mayflower Compact, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, the Federalist papers (Alexander Hamilton and James Madison), and the Bill of Rights. Additional documents include U. S. Supreme Court cases and speeches from George Washington’s Farewell Address up to Martin Luther King, Jr.’s well-known “I Have A Dream” speech.
Shepherd’s 41 leads Golden Eagles past Pirates
After a sluggish start; Johnson Central cruised to an 86-60 win over Belfry last Thursday night. The Golden Eagles were led by the freshman duo of Brayden Shepherd and Austin Slone. Shepherd had a career night leading all scorers with 41 points. He was 15 of 23 from the field on the night. He knocked down eight of 12 threes and three of four free-throws. Slone followed with a triple double scoring 12 points 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Slone also had five steals. Kyle Rose added 10 points, Mason McKenzie added six points, Jaidon Daniel added four points, Ethan Meek added three points, Corbin Burt added three points, Cooper Blair added three points, Jacob Breeding added two points. Also Andrews Meeks and Dawson Montgomery added one point each to round out the scoring for Johnson Central.
