PHS attendance improving, principal tells city board
Paintsville Board of Education members received some good news during their regular meeting Monday, Jan. 8, about Paintsville High School student attendance. "I really want to brag because we have had a big focus on improving attendance this semester," PHS Principal Tiffany Austin told board members. "We track it every day. ... Our attendance, according to Mrs. Ward, went from 90 percent last year for the first semester to 92 percent for this semester."

Paintsville Utilities commission approves purchase of two new trucks
The Paintsville Utilities Commission approved the purchase of two new trucks and a wastewater plant mixer during its regular meeting on Jan. 2. According to Paintsville Utilities General Manager Bob Pack, the move was necessary as the company makes staff changes. Pack also took a moment to explain the leasing process for the company’s fleet.

Despite a late game surge, the Johnson Central Golden Eagles came up just short in its first district test of the season, losing to the Martin County Cardinals 85-78. Parsons expects another ‘fantastic year’ for local tourism

A former Johnson County educator has been indicted on a charge of using electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sexual or other prohibited acts. Kevin B.
