LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Once again, Tiger Woods will not be playing on the weekend of a major championship.

Woods shot a 6-over 77 Friday at the PGA Championship for a two day total of 7-over 149. The cut is projected at 1-under.

After shooting 72 Thursday, Woods, who is from Jupiter Island, got off to brutal start Friday going 7-over in his first four holes with two triple bogies.

On the par-4 second hole, Woods hit his first two shots into the rough and his next two into bunkers. He put two more shots into bunkers on No. 4, a par-4.

"I got off to bad start and the rough grabbed me at 2," he said. "No sand in the bunker as well. Just made a mistake there. I compounded the problem there at 4.

"Just kept making mistakes and things you can't do, not just in tournaments but in majors especially. And I just kept making them. I hung around for most of the day but unfortunately the damage was done early."

The 15-time majors winner has finished just two of the six major championships he has played since the single-car accident more than three years ago that nearly cost him his right leg. He has missed the cut twice, withdrawn twice and finished 60th and 47th.

Woods made the cut at the Masters last month but shot an 82 Saturday and finished 60th.

"I need to play more," he said. "Unfortunately, I just haven't played a whole lot of tournaments, and not a whole lot of tournaments on my schedule either. Hopefully everything will somehow come together in my practice sessions at home and be ready for Pinehurst."

The U.S. Open will be at Pinehurst June 13-16.

"I need to clean up my rounds." Woods said. "But also ... physically, yes, I am better than I was a month ago. I still have more ways to go, lots of improvement to go physically, and hopefully my team and I can get that done pre-Pinehurst and going into it."
