One person died after their vehicle collided with another vehicle being driven the wrong way by a suspected drunk driver on Interstate 10 early Sunday, according to California Highway Patrol.

CHP Officer David Torres said the crash occurred at about 2:45 a.m. and involved a Jeep Wrangler that was traveling eastbound on the westbound side of the interstate between the Jefferson and Monroe exits. The crash occurred when the Jeep and a Toyota Corolla driving the opposite direction attempted to switch lanes to avoid each other but ended up both switching into the same center lane, causing the two vehicles to crash head on.

The driver of the Corolla, 41-year-old Palm Springs resident Juan Reyes, was pronounced dead at the scene by fire personnel. The driver of the Jeep was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Torres said he did not have the arrested driver's name but would be able to provide it Monday.

Cal Fire also reported on social media that two other people were brought by ambulance to the hospital with what were described as moderate injuries but did not provide any other details.
