LINCOLN — The state is moving closer to filling a judicial vacancy in Central Nebraska. Gov. Jim Pillen’s office announced Wednesday that the Judicial Nominating Commission forwarded two nominees to the governor for consideration: Melodie Bellamy on Kearney and Tim Hoeft of Holdrege. The nominees are vying to become a district court judge for the 10th Judicial District, which includes Adams, Clay, Franklin, Harlan, Kearney, Nuckolls, Phelps and Webster counties.

JULY 19, 2024 (NORTH PLATTE, NEB.) — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol have arrested a Texas man following a fatal crash in southwest Nebraska. A defensive end from Kansas has scheduled a visit with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Hunter Higgins will visit the Lincoln campus on July 27. His visit will come just days after his July 25 visit to the Oklahoma Sooners. The three-star prospect plays for Maize South High School in Wichita, Kansas.
