Apple Picking Season Is Here Earlier Than Usual This Year
Tropical Wisconsin weather isn’t something you hear about every day, but 2024 is on track to be the hottest year to date and Wisconsin farms are feeling the heat. As a result, apple picking season is early this year at local farms, including Apple Holler, a fruit farm based in Sturtevant.
Two Big Lots stores in Northeast Wisconsin to close
Big Lots announced it would close 149 stores in 28 states earlier this year and citing inflation and competitive difficulties as the cause. “While we made substantial progress on improving our business operations in Q1, we missed our sales goals due largely to a continued pullback in consumer spending by our core customers, particularly in high ticket discretionary items,” President and CEO Bruce Thorn announced in June.

Remains identified of Wisconsin soldier killed in Korean War
(WLUK) -- The remains of a Wisconsin soldier who was reported missing in action nearly 75 years ago during the Korean War have been identified. U.S. Army Cpl. Robert P. Raess, 21, of Dodgeville, was accounted for March 26, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency announced Tuesday. Scientists used anthropological analysis, mitochondrial DNA analysis and circumstantial evidence to identify Raess's remains.
