Christian Sands On New LP "Embracing Dawn," Future Plans & More - "Paltrocast" Exclusive
Back in July, it was announced that GRAMMY-nominated pianist Christian Sands would be releasing his new album Embracing Dawnon September 27, 2024 via Mack Avenue Records. Embracing Dawn trails 2023’s acclaimed Christmas Stories and 2020’s Be Water, of which The New York Times said “Equipped with a crisp but forceful touch, he seems always to be flowing in new directions, integrating elements of prog rock, gospel and Western classical into a forward-tumbling jazz conception.” Embracing Dawn furthers Sands’ uniquely cultivated jazz language, where agile post-bop meets soulful bluesy tinges and gorgeous swells of strings. The album announcement comes with the first single “MMC,” which evokes acoustic jazz-rock of The Bad Plus variety.

Back in July, it was announced that the highly-acclaimed musician Jerry Douglas -- not just the preeminent master of the resophonic guitar, he’s also a 16x GRAMMY Award-winning recording artist, band leader, producer, composer, and member of Alison Krauss and Union Station since 1998 -- would be releasing his first album in seven years, The Set. The 11-track album, comprising five new offerings and six revitalized songs from Douglas' catalog, is set for a September 20, 2024 release via Nolivan Records across the DSPs in addition to physical CDs and 180-gram vinyl. As he began plotting his new solo album, Dale Crover realized he was starting from scratch. The Melvins, Nirvana and Redd Kross drummer and Altamont singer-guitarist was already more than 30 years into a world-renowned musical career when he started work on what became his full-length solo debut, 2017’s The Fickle Finger Of Fate. So Crover fortunately had a backlog of songs and ideas to draw on from The Fickle Finger Of Fate and its 2021 followup Rat-A-Tat-Tat. But this time around it was different, just Crover and a Tascam 8-track gifted to him by Joyful Noise founder Karl Hofstetter -- and the end result is Glossolalia, Crover’s third LP under his own name and arguably his most focused statement yet as a solo artist.

Playing to a mix of arenas, amphitheaters and select stadiums, the tour notably played Fenway Park back in June, with Barenaked Ladies also on the billing.
