BAY COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – Local Panama City Boy Scouts paid their respects with a flag retirement ceremony. It was held at American Legion Post 392.

At 9 a.m., the public, members of Boy Scout Pack 382 and American Legion Post 392 gathered outside to retire over 70 flags in a dignified manner. They began the ceremony by folding a 25-foot garrison flag.

Following that, they recited the Pledge of Allegiance and got the fire started.

Florida Highway Patrol wants your vote. The agency is trying to repeat for the best-looking cruiser.

Once lit, one by one, people grabbed their folded flags, placed them within the flames, and gave one final salute.

“I think the general ceremony itself is important in a way that not only is it an absolute honor, people fought and died over this, not only some of these flags but also the concept they represent the country. But it’s also just important to me to be able to be here,” Pack 382 Boy Scout Nicolas Stewart said.

If you missed Saturday’s opportunity, you can still drop off retired flags in the drop box at American Legion Post 392 in Panama City.
