    'Halloween' Actor Charles Cyphers Dead at 85

    Charles Cyphers , known for his role as Sheriff Leigh Brackett in three of the Halloween franchise films, has died. The actor was 85 years old.

    His recent passing was confirmed by his manager Chris Roe , who shared that he succumbed to a "brief illness" on Sunday, Aug. 4.

    “With a heavy heart I can announce that veteran actor of the stage and screen, Charles Cyphers passed away comfortably from a brief illness in Tucson, Ariz., on Sunday, August 4,” Roe said in a statement, per People .

    It continued: “His family asks for privacy at this time. Details on a celebration of life ceremony will happen at a date and location to be determined."

    “Charles was a lovable and sensitive man,” Roe continued. “He always had the best stories, and you got a full performance while he told you. He was a close friend and client of many years who will be dearly missed.”

    Cyphers starred in John Carpenter's first Halloween movie in 1978, opposite Jamie Lee Curtis , who portrayed the character of Laurie Strode, a high schooler who becomes targeted by serial killer Michael Myers.

    He later appeared in both sequels, Halloween II (1981) and Halloween Kills (2021), the latter of which became his final on-screen project.

    A longtime collaborator of Carpenter's, the Niagara Falls, New York, native also worked on earlier film Assault on Precinct 13 (1976), in which he played Officer Starker, prior to his involvement in the horror blockbusters.

    Throughout his lengthy career, he was a part of several TV shows, including Barnaby Jones, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman, Charlie’s Angels, Roots, Wonder Woman, The Betty White Show, Starsky and Hutch , Hill Street Blues , ER and many more.

    One of Cyphers’ costars, Nancy Kyes , expressed heartfelt sentiments concerning his passing. “So sorry to hear about dear Chuck. My friend of many years, he could always be relied on for a kind word, a good laugh and a great story. How he will be missed," she told the outlet.
