'NCIS' Star Michael Weatherly Mourns Huge Family Loss

Fans are rallying behind Michael Weatherly after the NCIS star revealed a devastating loss in his family.

The actor took to X on Tuesday, Aug. 20, to announce the passing of his father, Michael Manning Weatherly , the week prior on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2024. Weatherly didn't share a cause of death for his dad, though did note that he was born in 1932, making him around the age of 92 when he died.

Weatherly called his father a "great friend to me in my adult years," and revealed that he and his ex-wife, the actor's mom Patricia , "brought the Swiss Army Knife to huge success in the 70’s and 80’s" through his work with The Forschner Group after spending time as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army.

"...he leaves behind many loved ones who will miss him," the actor wrote, looking back on his nearly-40-year marriage to wife Ellis and mentioning his father's other children, Elizabeth , Leigh , and the late William . He is also survived by stepchildren Chris , Lisa and Cornelia , in addition to the late Nan and 12 grandchildren.

Fans flooded Weatherly and his family with love in response, with one writing, "So very sorry for your loss. Sounds like your dad had a life of great adventure, sort of like a character in a movie. Praying for you and your family to find peace in a time of loss."

"I'm deeply sorry for your loss, Michael. Your father's adventurous spirit and sense of humour will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. My thoughts are with you and your family," said another.
