I've never met a dog who loves going to the vet. There are parts of a vet visit that my dog loves — the car ride there, the people and the other animals she gets to meet while she's in the waiting room, the treats she gets afterwards. But as far as what happens during the actual appointment goes, I know she'd rather be anywhere else doing anything else. She really doesn't like it when the visit requires the vet or a tech to take her to an area of the office for a test where I can't go with her... and that always makes me wonder how vets deal with animals who are hellbent on making their jobs as hard as possible.

One vet on TikTok is showing us how he handles this situation, and even if you're not a vet yourself, pet parents are going to have to laugh. Who among us hasn't tried to reason with a dog who simply cannot be reasoned with?

But for real. The amount of times I’ve asked an animal to be a decent person is immeasurable. The conversations I make up between myself, my staff, and my patients is probably what keeps every day fun and interesting! 😂 #fyp #comedyvideo #happy #doglover #catlover #petlover #vetsoftiktok #drbozelka

This video comes to us from a veterinarian named Dr. Bozelka , whose skit gives us a glimpse into the way he tries to get aggressive animals to calm down and listen to him so he can have them the help they need.

And even though this is all obviously a joke, somehow, it mirrors the way I try to talk to my dog when I wish she would calm down and listen to me!

To one "barking dog" off screen, he says, "you are a Bulldog, okay? You do not have the facial anatomy or the lung capacity to be this angry at life or at me." LOL!

In another part of the video where he's speaking to someone inside a travel carrier, Dr. Bozelka says, "Hey, there's really no reason to choose violence in this situation. I don't mean you any harm!"

Judging by the hissing sound coming from the carrier, though, it seems like that feeling may not be mutual...

How Vets Really Handle Aggressive Dogs

If only we were able to reason with animals using actual words and logic, but unfortunately, it's just not going to happen — no matter how good your vet may be! So how will they actually handle it if your dog is being especially hard to treat?

According to VetRadar, it's common practice for vets to use a few different tools at their disposal, including muzzles to prevent being bitten and towels to tamp down a pup's anxiety, along with calling in other vets and techs to help if necessary.

There are also pharmaceutical solutions, like sedatives, that can be helpful. Certain dogs with anxiety may be prescribed medication to take before their vet visit so they arrive at the office without feeling stressed.

If you're worried your dog may fall into this category, it may be something you want to discuss with your vet before your visit. Rest assured that these doctors are well trained in handling this situation. After so many years of dealing with anxious pets every day, they may have some tips you haven't thought of yet!
