Toddlers are a dog's best friend. They love to play and they have designated nap time, both things that are important to dogs everywhere. However, there's one thing that really cements their relationship: toddlers are incapable of holding onto their food.

On Tuesday, August 6th, three Golden Retrievers officially discovered the joy of following their little human brother around. They know he's going to drop something sometime, and they're ready and willing to pick it all up:

Max, Finn, and Murphy definitely has the right idea. When he grows up, their son will definitely say he was the pups' favorite, but I think we all know why that was...

Max and Finn were the OGs in this house, with Murphy joining in later. Even though he got a late start, he picked up quick: he learned how to play, how to manipulate mom into giving him more treats, and how to follow his little brother around. Toddlers are gold mines for dogs!

The three boys will learn very quickly that being around toddlers is great - when they have food. As soon as he starts dropping things, they'll come running, but they'll probably wander off if he's not eating. Toddlers are grabby!

How to Train Toddlers to be Safe Around Dogs

Just like you need to make sure your dog is safe around your toddler, you need to make sure your toddler is safe around your dog. Otherwise, someone could get hurt, and that is never good - especially when it's two of your favorite family members!

When you're figuring out how to keep everyone safe, you should:

    1. Make sure your toddler knows not to grab, pull, bite, or lick the pup.
    2. If your child is eating and the dog wants to be around, you need to be supervising.
    3. Try to discourage your dog from begging by pawing, nudging, or licking the child.
    4. Discourage the child from purposely dropping food on the floor.
    5. If you're feeding your toddler something toxic for dogs, you should keep the dog out of the room just in case.

You can have age-appropriate discussions about safety with your dogs, too. Simple things like, "it could hurt them," or "it'll make their tummies hurt," coupled with a redirection will work wonders in teaching them to be safe. As they get older, you can explain things a little more thoroughly, too. Though, by that point, I think the three pups in this video will have their brother/snack dispenser totally brainwashed...
