The unconditional love from a dog is unlike anything. While they're a small part of our lives, we're the center of theirs. This proved true when one woman left for a 5-day trip, and her beloved rescue Pit Bulls stood guard awaiting her return.

The events played out in a late July Instagram clip shared by @dharmas_dogs , and it's clear these former shelter pups will wait as long as it takes to see their mom again. Grab the tissues for this one!

"POV: Your mom left for 5 days," the video opens with a view of the dogs first watching the door, then the window. All but one went to sleep on that first night while the lone fur baby Nali stayed awake watching the door, still waiting.

Days 2, 3, and 4 must feel like forever to these sweethearts as they do the rounds of window and door watching yet again.

By day 5, their wishes are granted when Mom walks through the door. Every tail is wagging with joy when they realize she didn't abandon them—she came home. The final scene shows Mom holding one of the pups who lays in her lap while looking up longingly. It's the face of trust, the face of love, the face of gratitude, and it's so beautiful.

"Your dog loves you—probably more than anything in their world," the caption reads. "It's my belief that they miss you when you're gone, but they'll be ok as long as you always come back. Please take care of them just like you would take care of any member of your family. You're their family."

Do Our Pups Know We're Coming Back?

A dog's sense of time isn't exactly the same as humans, with hours and minutes. But Bond Vet says they do understand time to some degree based on routine, daily patterns, and associative learning. In other words, consistency with schedules helps them identify daily patterns within time intervals.

That said, these pups may not understand Mom's been gone for 5 days, but they can tell it's been a while due to the absence of her familiar scent. Plus, if there are "any disruptions in their daily schedule that indicate something is different," they can sense it. This might make them feel anxious she's not coming home. They hope you do, but with the way they understand time, it might not feel that way.

The best solution is to ensure they're on a similar, consistent schedule until you return. When you're back, give them triple the love to show them you might leave, but you'll always come back to them. Truly, we don't deserve dogs!
