Bernese Mountain Dog Puppy and Horse Share Love at First Sight

Considering the way that many dogs naturally take on the role as the leader of their pack, it makes sense that they wouldn't be interested in befriending animals who are larger than they are. Not to mention that animals like horses are so big that they can be a little scary — imagine how it must feel to look up at one if you're the size of an average dog. That can be a little (or a lot) intimidating, no matter how brave your dog is.

But against all odds, sometimes these animals do become friends... and when it happens, it makes for the most adorable moments. Case in point: this video below, which might just make your whole day.

Recently, @nrps.prince shared this sweet footage of her horse, Prince, meeting a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy, and as far as I can tell, it was love at first sight. These two adored each other from the first moment — and somehow, neither of them seemed to have any fear!

At first, there was a lot of sniffing each other going on as they tried to figure out who this new creature was (Prince was probably wondering why this horse was so small, while the pup wanted to know what was up with the giant dog) and before long, we get to see clips of all their adventures together.

Not only do they go on runs together, but they also play together. Can we talk about. how cute these two are, tugging on the same toy?!

Commenters couldn't get enough of them, with one person writing, "this is so lovely. Somehow, they know just how to be with each other."

It's hard not to believe that they were meant to be friends!

Which Dog Breeds Get Along With Horses?

Ultimately, it's up to the animals' personality if a dog and a horse will get along (especially as well as Prince and his new BFF) but there are certain breeds that are more likely to befriend a horse than others.

According to The Northwest Horse Source, sticking to dogs who have herding instincts can be your safest bet. This would include breeds like Australian Shepherds, Border Collies, and Corgis, though there are plenty of other breeds who fit into this category, too.

And as it turns out, Bernese Mountain Dogs are also good to have around horses; they're bred to protect livestock, so I wouldn't be surprised if Prince's new pal automatically had some protective instincts that helped him get along with the horse right off the bat.

I am definitely going to need more videos of Prince and his puppy. What a sweet pair of friends!
