It's hard to travel with pets, but it's also hard to travel without them, because that means leaving them behind. My pet sitter is always a family member or close friend, so I know that they're in good hands (and staying with someone who knows to send the helicopter dog and cat mom regular photo updates), but I still worry about them constantly. Besides, as nice as it is to sleep in a cozy hotel bed, is it nicer than snuggling up with your dog at the end of a long day?
It's tough to miss your dogs for the week or two that you're on vacation, but some people have to endure more extended time away. The one perk that comes with it, though? How beautiful the reunion can be when you finally come home, as we can see in this TikTok video below.
On Thursday, August 8, @susieesong shared this video of what happened when she returned home for the first time after moving to another country five months earlier. Let's just say that her sweet Chihuahua pup being happy to see her might be the understatement of the year.
She was so excited that she could hardly sit still, making the most excited (and squeakiest) barks.
"She wouldn't let me stop petting her," the pup's mom wrote on the video.
It's no wonder she and her dog missed each other so much â in a comment, she wrote, "sheâs literally my best friend and my baby. Sheâs been with me for almost 14 years."
That separation had to be so hard for them both, but it's great to hear that it's over now!
How to Help Dogs With Separation Anxiety
Some dogs really struggle with their humans being gone for too long â and the definition of "too long" in their minds could be as short as a few hours.
If you've noticed your pup has an especially hard time when you're gone, they might be suffering from separation anxiety, which can be tough, but there are some things you can do to help.
WebMD recommends trying a few different things to ease their anxiety , from offering them a special treat or toy that they can only have when you're away to leaving clothes out that smell like you so they can still feel your presence, even when you aren't home.
It may also help to take them out for a long walk or play together for awhile before you leave. They may be so tired they'll just nap while you're out!
If all else fails, you can always reach out to your vet and see if they can offer any assistance. Your pup will get through this!
