Dogs often learn the hard way that cats have a mind of their own. Even the most well-trained pup with exceptional instincts needs to know who is really the boss sometimes. And cats don’t hesitate to teach them.

That’s what happened when one Australian Shepherd tried to tell his feline sibling what to do. As you might imagine, this independent kitty wasn’t exactly enthused.

Watch how it all went down in this video from August 5:

When Remy’s (@ remy_miniaussie ) mom asked for his help to get the cat inside, she thought her working dog would be up for the task. To his credit, he gave it his all, but the cat had other plans. Instead of following the dog’s orders, this frisky feline chased after Remy instead. LOL! It shouldn’t take the intelligent pup long before he begins recognizing the cat’s unhappy tail wag. If he does, it will help prevent him from facing the wrath of an annoyed kitty, but they don’t always pick up on these cues at first. While this attempt to get his sibling inside might not have gone as planned, this good boy certainly gets an A for his efforts.

    Dogs With Natural Herding Instincts

Australian Cattle Dogs , Kelpies, and Shepherds are just a few of the many breeds born with the instinctive desire and ability to move livestock. Other well-known breeds with herding behaviors include Collies, Malinois , German Shepherds, and Sheepdogs. Over the years, these dogs have been bred to develop characteristics such as boundless energy, high intelligence, physical agility, a strong work ethic, and eagerness to please. As a result, they make perfect companions on working farms and as beloved family members.

People were amused by this dog’s valiant attempt to herd a kitty. Viewer @amberpenningtonofficial shared, “If our cat escapes, we release the Freya. She’s an Australian Shepherd, and we say, ‘Get the cat!’ And she always herds her back inside or traps her so we can grab her.” That’s very impressive! Viewer @orugolisoda joked, “His resume has this skill listed as, Led the project with a high degree of ownership with rich creatively and persuasive stakeholder influencing to achieve the company’s goals.” Ha! That’s a great way to summarize this effort. Viewer @johnson.k.e remarked, “I hear herding cats is one of the hardest things to do. Hahaha.” This is the ideal example of where that saying comes from and why it’s so true.

Moving a cat comes with its own set of challenges, but perhaps this dog will master the art in time. Hopefully, he’ll be able to do it without scratches or bites.
