Dogs make the best cheerleaders, whether it's for us, other dogs, or animals. If you ask Gunner, the American Pit Bull, caring for a special cat friend is in his blood, and he wouldn't dare leave her during her time of need.

An Instagram post on August 7, 2024, shows the compassionate Pittie helping his feline housemate while she goes through labor. This gentle soul is the best boy who refuses to leave her side. Take a look!

The clip shows Gunner before Mom takes him from the room just as her pregnant kitty goes into labor. But the mama cat didn't want him to go. She's seen crying out for him and doesn't stop until he returns to stay with her while she labors.

"He stayed with her for hours, being patient, keeping her company," the video says. "Even though it took a long time, he waited and checked in on her (respectfully)."

Once she delivered her babies, Gunner was right there to help take care of them and stayed by her side as they grew. This sensitive soul has so much love for his cat friend, and we're sure she's grateful to have him in her life.

The comments on this video have one thing in common: Gunner's sweet spirit is palpable. It's no wonder the kitty decided he should be there when she needed someone most. Pregnancy is hard enough!

"He's not the stepdad, he's the dad that stepped up," one person wrote. "Just when you think he couldn't possibly be more perfect," another said. "The best doula. But seriously, this is so precious and such a great way to show how lovely XL bullies are," another noted.

Gunner is a true gentleman in every way and the world is better with him in it.

Are Dog Doulas a Real Thing?

Gunner is a pro when it comes to thriving as an emotional support doula. Dogster explains dog doulas exist and "can be trained to provide emotional support, companionship, and comfort to expectant parents during labor and childbirth."

Just like a service dog, these pups can help reduce stress and anxiety during the labor and delivery process for other pets or humans alike. They excel at distracting from pain or providing comfort—things dogs do naturally because they're awesome. And with labor lasting a long amount of time, it's just nice to have a calm, relaxed dog near, whether for pets or just companionship while going through it.

Gunner's feline friend probably could've gone through the experience without him, but why would she when she has the best support system around?
